I have been teaching since 1969. For 25 years I was a Univac II programmer, a DEC -10, -20, VAX, an IBM 1401, 7074, DOS, OS, VM large-scale “legacy” operating-systems Software Specialist, and a data center Associate Director. During that time I was also an Instructor in both the Computer Sciences and Philosophy. I left (well, almost) the computer field 12 years ago, returning full time to my first love, teaching Philosophy. I have completed all my coursework for my Ph.D. and also hold an M.Ed. in Education. In addition to being a member of the Philosophy faculty and a senior lecturer at University College, I have held adjunct positions at Tufts University, the City College of New Orleans, and the University of Massachusetts in both their CPCS College and their Philosophy Department.
A thing to note about me is that often I give no more than two formal class lectures per semester. Instead, I conduct my courses using the Socratic method of teaching. There’s nothing like an unasked question to get the blood coursing through my veins.
If I must choose, my philosophical research interests are phenomenology, Plato, Heidegger, existentialism, the Presocratics, phenomenology of technology, and business and medical ethics. And yes, I still fool with the system software in personal computers.
I love to travel, especially to less-visited areas both local and foreign, but I also like being at home in metropolitan Boston with my wife, daughter and son, our dog Woofie and our cat Cat.
